Revived by God’s Word
Remember the word to Your servant,
In which You have made me hope,
This is my comfort in my affliction,
That Your word has revived me.
Psalm 119:49-50
David, who wrote these verses, is reminding God of a promise He had given him. David is holding on to His promise as it is his only source of hope and he is looking to Him for its fulfilment.
When we look at Abraham, Joseph, Moses and many others in the bible, we see that personal promises given to them were then fulfilled through God directing the course of their lives. In times of darkness, they went back to these promises and lifted them up afresh to God.
I do not believe God needs reminding by us but it may happen that we receive a promise and hold it in our hearts for many years remaining dormant, like seeds beneath the soil. Then, after a prompting from the Holy Spirit, we reaffirm to God our faith in what He has promised.
This produces two results – it releases the power of God within the promise to bring about its fulfilment and at the same time imparts new life and strength to us as David states ‘That Your word has revived me.’ For us today, knowing how to respond to God’s promises becomes a key to the fulfilment of His plan for our lives.
As SM UK goes through a period of transition to operating as a charity under the umbrella of LCCT, we ask God to help us:
- to remember the promises he gave us all these years ago
- to let go of all that is hindering us
- to activate the seeds which were planted over the years, and
- to transform us into our new wineskin
